LEGO bricks follow a precise measurement system that makes every piece compatible. The most iconic piece — the 2×4 brick — is the foundation for all scaling.
A standard LEGO stud is 8 mm wide. A standard brick height is 9.6 mm (including the studs).
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Width (2 studs) | 2 × 8 mm = 16 mm |
| Length (4 studs) | 4 × 8 mm = 32 mm |
| Height | 9.6 mm |
All LEGO bricks follow the same simple formula:
This means smaller bricks (like 1×1 or 1×2) and larger bricks (like 2×6 or 2×8) all scale perfectly from the same base unit.
| Brick | Studs | Width | Length | Height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1×1 | 1 × 1 | 8 mm | 8 mm | 9.6 mm |
| 1×2 | 1 × 2 | 8 mm | 16 mm | 9.6 mm |
| 2×3 | 2 × 3 | 16 mm | 24 mm | 9.6 mm |
| 2×4 | 2 × 4 | 16 mm | 32 mm | 9.6 mm |
| 2×6 | 2 × 6 | 16 mm | 48 mm | 9.6 mm |
| 2×8 | 2 × 8 | 16 mm | 64 mm | 9.6 mm |
Because everything is based on the same stud grid, LEGO bricks always fit together — no matter the size.
